FALSE. If a city council or board of aldermen in a municipality or county vote to opt-out of the medical cannabis program, the citizens in that jurisdiction can force an opt-in through a special election. I hear that some illnesses are not covered under the new medical cannabis law. Is that true?
TRUE: A wide range of debilitating illnesses are covered where medical cannabis is proven to be most effective, including cancer, multiple sclerosis, sickle cell anemia, epilepsy, and chronic pain. There is a rumor that medical cannabis cultivators and dispensaries will be allowed to buy or lease property and open for business near my church or my child’s school. Is this true?
FALSE. While municipalities that opt into the medical cannabis program will operate within city or town limits, the new law and state regulations have guidelines on how far away a medical cannabis entity can be to a church, school, or day care.
I hear that this makes marjuana legal in Mississippi, particularly for recreational use. Is that true?
FALSE. Recreational use of marijuana is illegal in Mississippi, and no changes to local or state law regarding its legality have been changed.
